Come to me, that your soul may live

Posted on August 8, 2021August 8, 2021 by Maria Huemmer

By God’s blessing and grace, I am writing from Alaska! It is my first time to visit and I’m here with my mom. It’s not even been a full day and already my heart and spirit is refilled and renewed. I’ve been able to do the following things which, pre-kids is maybe not huge, but are true sources of joy and relaxation now.

  • Binge watch the for 10+ hours (long layover and flight)📺
  • Enjoy an amazing remote Mass with one of my favorite homilists and be able to see and hear every word! 🙏🏾
  • Eat a day’s worth of meals for myself (and not prepare or assist anyone else) 🍽️
  • Same idea as above except with regard to the potty 🚽
  • Take a photo on a bridge without considering who/what can fit through the side slats 📷

This experience would not be possible if not for God’s blessings, especially in my husband, who is caring for our children, and my children who have helped give me this perspective of joy and gratitude for the ability to perform simple things.

It’s easy to feel a little guilt for getting to gallivant, but I quickly dismiss it. God created me for work but also for rest. And there sure hasn’t been enough time for rest in this crazy pandemic!

I binge listened to several Bible in a Year episodes and the scripture below helped singe into my soul that God wants me enjoy myself and live!

Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?

Hearken diligently to me, and eat what is good,
and delight yourselves in fatness.

Incline your ear, and come to me;
hear, that your soul may live;
and I will make with you an everlasting covenant…

Isaiah 55:2–3 (RSVCE)

This one “confirmed” that thought, how amazing is it to know that the Sabbath was made for ME a mere creation of the God of the universe, to know that He sanctifies ME!

Moreover I gave them my sabbaths, as a sign between me and them, that they might know that I the Lord sanctify them

Ezekiel 20:12 (RSVCE)

Journey With Me!

My name is Maria and I am a child of God, a wife, and a mother.

My mission here is to create a space to share reflections, walk and learn with others on the spiritual journey, our quest to seek out the purpose of our earthly life and spread the good news!

Everyone's journey is different, but I believe that ultimately the path can lead us all to the same place, which is peace, truth, and Love.
